A few months ago the Seattle Times wrote a multi-part series about the legal and academic problems concerning the UW and its athletic department. The series brought to light the use of drugs, drinking, assault, beating women and even rape from its football players. This time around it is the Cougars turn to deal with an article from The Seattle Times. Most of these offenses have already been reported in the past, however, I was not aware that Andy Mattingly has had a couple of run ins with the law. This goes to show that Bill Doba really had no control of this team both on and off the field. He was a nice guy that is for sure but he seemed to ignore the academic and legal issues his players faced. Coach Wulff has a lot of work to do, and if he can clean up the off field issues and throw a couple of bowl games in there in the coming years his work will be much appreciated by WSU.

Anderson Wins 400 Meter Hurdle
Freshman Jeshua Anderson won the 400 Meter Hurdles last night at the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. He also set a school record of 48.69 seconds to edge out Rueben McCoy of Auburn. Here is what Anderson had to say, "This is a blessing," Anderson said. "I set my goals high and for my collegiate year I accomplished what I wanted to, and that was to be a champion at the NCAA championships." Reading this I can only think of what he could do on the football field down the line from Gipson. If Anderson comes back to play football the Cougs will be looking very solid at WR.

Jeshua Anderson Pushing For NFL & Olympics
Jeshua Anderson spent last fall playing WR in all of WSU's football games as a freshman. He has been spending his spring dominating the 400 meter hurdles. He is currently in Des Moines, Iowa competing in the NCAA Championships were he ran a preliminary best time in the 400 of 49.90. As Anderson pushes to become an Olympian he knows that football may take a back seat this coming fall, despite already being told he will eventually be a high NFL pick in the future. "The (Olympics) are definitely a goal of mine," Anderson said. "I want to do everything I can to make it this year. If it doesn't happen this year, then I'll try the next time around. But it's something I am working for." Hopefully Anderson will be playing football next fall but I think everyone will understand if he sits out a season to pursue a chance to compete in the Olympics.

Hendrickson In Record Books
Mark Hendrickson gave up home run number 600 to Ken Griffey Jr. in the first inning of a loss to the Cincinnati Reds Monday night. The former Coug gave up six runs on five hits and got shelled for 3 home runs. This drops his record to 7-4 and probably is going to leave him off of the All-Star team.

4 Cougs Taken In MLB Draft
Three WSU Seniors, Paul Gran, Jim Murphy and Jayson Miller and one Junior, Matt Way were taken in the MLB draft earlier this week. Gran who played third base for the Cougs was taken in the 7th round by the Florida Marlins. First Baseman, Jim Murphy was taken in the 17th round by the Philadelphia Phillies while Jayson Miller was taken in the 30th round by the Angels. Pitcher Matt Way was selected in the 36th round by the San Francisco Giants. On another note six WSU commits were drafted so at this time it is unknown if they will be wearing a WSU uniform next spring.

Cougfan Has Updates On Seattle Game
Ticket sales are on the rise for the Seattle game against Oklahoma State to kick off the 08' season. With it being labor day weekend and a more recognizable opponent it is expected to be a large crowd. The article states that the North parking lot will be closed to tailgaters so everyone will have to park behind the Pyramid Brewery, under the Alaskan Way Viaduct. I was there last year and it was the best tailgate I have ever attended.
