"DeAngelo Casto, The Seattle Times and Associated Press state prep basketball player of the year, has signed a letter-of-intent to play at Washington State." Hopefully everything works out with Casto and his eligibility, as the article states that at this moment, Casto is a "nonqualifier." I believe the best part of all of this is that the top player in the state chose WSU over UW and Gonzaga which is in the town he played high school ball in. This shows that top players in the state are now thinking about playing basketball for WSU and Tony Bennett.

Howie Stalwick of The Olympian has an article about Casto as well. You have to love this quote from Casto, "I really believe we're going to make history down there," said Casto, who has yet to qualify academically for NCAA Division I."

I don't know about UW, but Gonzaga probably wouldn't even consider a non-qualifier like Casto.. Academic standards are too high I would think.
Gonzaga does have high academic standards but being a private school I have heard that they have more flexibility with grade issues. Jeremy Pargo struggled badly with grades at times in high school and he made his way to Gonzaga. However, all players have to fit the NCAA academic standards. The Cougs are obviously banking on that Casto qualifies or he would have not signed a letter of intent. It should all work out fine.
He signed a letter of intent, hoping he can qualify. Means diddly sqwat until he does. This guy has been disastrous in the classroom. Absolutely disregards academics. If he can qualify, its because people made it happen for him, not that he earned it.
