California opened up their season last week with an impressive 38-31 win over Michigan State. Here are some of the key performers for the Golden Bears.
When looking at Cal, the one guy you have to watch at all times is Sophomore RB Jahvid Best. After missing part of last season with an injury, he is back accounting for nearly 300 all purpose yards last week including 111 rushing on 24 carries and 1 TD.
True Freshman, Shane Vereen also rushed for over 100 yards but 81 of those came on the game clinching TD run. Expect to see him get a few carries against WSU.
QB Kevin Riley, who replaced Nate Longshore as the starter this season went 17/24 for 202 yards, 2 TD's and 0 Int's. Longshore was promised playing time this season but after throwing 2 Int's in 2 drives last week, don't expect to see him on the field in Pullman.
The defense was supposed to be Cal's strong point led by a experienced secondary and an impressive LB core. However, last week they struggled especially with pass coverage allowing MSU to pass for 321 yards. The Bear Defense also allowed 24 second half points, so this is something I'm sure they will be working on against WSU.
